The specification that decides the shelf

Cross-section against length. 1.5 mm² is ample for ordinary runs; 2.5 mm² is the recommendation for long runs or low-impedance speakers; beyond that the returns are theoretical. At five metres into floorstanders, 2.5 mm² is the right answer rather than an extravagance.

What the strand count buys

79 × 0.2 mm per conductor. More, finer strands make the same cross-section far more flexible, which is why this cable is under 10 mm thick carrying 2.5 mm². That flexibility is what lets it follow a skirting board rather than stand proud of it — a practical difference you live with daily.

Supplied as a pair

Both runs the same length, both terminated. Buy both runs the same length even when one speaker is closer: it costs a couple of metres of cable and removes an argument you will otherwise have with yourself.

The gap in the specification

What the price is for

Termination, flexibility and matched lengths. The copper itself is the least of it — cable and plugs bought separately cost a fraction and require an evening.
