A subwoofer usually ends up on the opposite side of the room from the receiver, so this is the longest analogue run in a home cinema — and the one most exposed to interference from mains cables it has to cross. That makes shielding the specification, and makers describe it in the construction: a braided screen, a foil screen, or both. The second choice is termination: a single RCA plug, or a Y-split that feeds both the left and right LFE inputs of a subwoofer that has two — which does not increase level on most designs, contrary to what the packaging implies.
