At a given price, a 1080p projector puts into light and contrast what a 4K one spends on pixels — and on a two-metre image watched from three metres, that trade usually wins. The figures that decide are the same three as everywhere in projection, and the first is the one to distrust: brightness annoucements without a unit. A machine advertised at "12 000 lumens" and one stating "2 200 ANSI lumens" are not in the same class, and the second is the honest one. Native contrast is what makes a dark scene look black rather than grey; a "1 000 000:1" is a dynamic figure produced by dimming the lamp. Last comes light source life, stated in hours at a given mode — a lamp is a consumable, an LED or laser block usually is not.
