What this shelf does

Puts a Bluetooth input on an amplifier that predates it. For a receiver — unlike a transmitter — the important number is not latency but the codec and what happens after it.

The design decision here

Mains power, permanent installation. Not a battery, not a USB lead from the back of a television. A receiver powered from a television socket appears and disappears with the television; one with a battery has to be charged. This is designed to sit in a rack and be always available.

Automatic reconnection

It reconnects to the last device that used it. That is what turns a receiver from a gadget into a working input: no pairing ritual, no menu, the amplifier simply plays.

What is not stated

The codec list and multipoint. Every Bluetooth device supports SBC, so it will work with anything — what it does beyond that is unstated, and so is whether two phones can stay paired at once.

The output side

RCA and 3.5 mm, both analogue. The conversion happens inside this box rather than in the amplifier. A receiver with an optical output hands that job back to the amplifier’s own converter; this one does not have that choice.
