What it is, precisely

A switch. Three sources into one screen. It is not a splitter and cannot feed two displays, whatever the word “splitter” in the listing title suggests — that word appears on almost every box in this category regardless of direction.

The honest limit

4K at 30 Hz, 1080p at 60 Hz. Most boxes at this price claim 4K 60 and quietly mean something less. This one states 30 Hz. For film, where the source is 24 frames per second anyway, that is close to irrelevant; for a console or a computer it is visibly less smooth.

What is not stated

HDCP and EDID. A protected 4K source refuses to play through a device that cannot negotiate the right HDCP version, and the symptom is a black screen. EDID decides whether the source sees the display’s real capabilities. Neither appears in this listing, and between them they account for most of the failures on this shelf.

The button

Manual, with no remote. Nothing to lose, no battery — and it has to be reached, which behind a wall-mounted television is a genuine nuisance.
