  • Adjustable amplifier gain, which is the single most useful control on an amplified aerial
  • An LTE4 filter, which addresses a real and growing source of interference
  • The cable length is not published, and it is the specification that decides where the aerial can go

Best for: A weak or interference-affected location where the gain has to be tuned rather than accepted.

The control this shelf needs and almost never has

Adjustable amplifier gain. The right amount of amplification depends entirely on your distance from the transmitter, and there is no way to know it in advance. A fixed-gain aerial is either right, too weak or — close to a transmitter — too strong, overloading the tuner and breaking the picture up.

A control turns that from a gamble into an adjustment.

The filter

LTE4. Mobile networks operate on frequencies next to the ones terrestrial television uses, and a nearby mast can push signal straight into a tuner. Near one, a filter is not a refinement; it is what makes reception possible.

Aimable rather than omnidirectional

A dipole has to be pointed, which is work. In exchange it rejects signals arriving from behind it — which is what you want when the interference and the transmitter are in different directions.

The bonus

DAB+ and FM as well as television. One aerial for a set and a radio, which nothing else on this shelf offers.

The gap

The cable length is not published. On a shelf where the useful position is a window and the television is elsewhere, that is the omission that matters — and this aerial also needs a mains socket wherever it ends up, which narrows the choice further.

Availability

On sale from 25 € to 37 € on the German, British, French, Italian and Spanish Amazon stores at the time of checking.

The Italian and Spanish Amazon listings are priced above 1.6× the cheapest store, which is normally a reshipping offer rather than a local price; they are left out of the range above.

Not found on the American Amazon store, where the buy link falls back to a local search rather than to a page that does not exist.

Prices and availability are what Keepa reported on the date this page was updated; both move.
