Why the certification is the specification

HDMI licensing forbids selling cables by version number. The meaningful labels are the certification categories — Premium High Speed at 18 Gbit/s, Ultra High Speed at 48 — and the latter carries a hologram that can be verified in an app. A brand that quotes the category is telling you something a “2.1” badge does not.
