The audio is almost never early — the picture is late. Video processing takes time, and the fix is to delay the sound until it matches.
Where the delay comes from
Every stage that touches the image adds latency: the display’s own processing, motion handling, scaling, and any HDR tone mapping. Sound passes through far less. The result is audio arriving before the frames it belongs to.
The setting to look for
An audio delay or lip sync control, in milliseconds, on whatever is producing the sound. Increase it until a close-up of someone speaking matches. Faces are the most sensitive test; anything else is guesswork.
What to do first, before adjusting anything
Turn off motion smoothing and any heavy picture processing on the display. Both add latency, and removing them sometimes removes the problem entirely.
When the delay goes the other way
Rarely, and it usually means a wireless link in the audio chain — Bluetooth headphones, or wireless rear speakers. There the audio is late, and only a device with a negative delay setting or a lower-latency codec will fix it.

Which device should I adjust?
The one producing the sound, usually — a receiver or soundbar with an audio delay or lip-sync setting. Adjusting on the television only works when the television is also the source, and it will not help when a disc player feeds the receiver directly.
Why does it change between apps?
Because each app and each source has its own processing chain. A setting that is right for a disc can be wrong for a streaming app, which is why several receivers store a delay per input.
