Amazon Fire TV Soundbar review

A 2.0 soundbar with DTS Virtual:X and Dolby Audio, 24 inches long, with the HDMI cable included.

The closing call Twenty-four inches, two and a half high, with the HDMI cable in the box and the recycled content published — and no wattage anywhere, like the other two famous names on this shelf.

What the maker puts in writing

  • “Fire TV Soundbar enhances TV audio with dual speakers for fuller sound, clearer dialogue, and deeper bass—all in a compact design”
  • “Enjoy a three-dimensional virtual surround sound experience with DTS Virtual:X and more detail with Dolby Audio”
  • “Just plug in the included HDMI cable to the HDMI eARC/ARC port on your TV to instantly enjoy audio that’s always in sync”
  • “With a length of 24” and a height of just 2.5”, Fire TV Soundbar fits most entertainment consoles and TV stands”
  • “Fire TV Ready - Designed and tested to work seamlessly with Fire TV”
  • “This device is made from 18% recycled materials (power adapter and cable not included)”

The HDMI cable is in the box, and that splits this shelf in two

Just plug in the included HDMI cable to the HDMI eARC/ARC port on your TV.

Compare the two premium names here:

Bose, $279 — an optical cable included, “an HDMI cable (sold separately)”, “wall brackets sold separately”, and the bass module connection cable sold separately. Sony, $98 — “Cable (Optical Cable, AC Cord)” in the box, while a separate bullet sells “easy TV set up with HDMI ARC”.

And the cheaper bars: Amazon, Hisense, Majority and Suntrok all include an HDMI cable.

Optical works and carries stereo and compressed surround fine. What it cannot do is pass the television’s volume control to the bar — the main convenience ARC exists for.

And the dimensions are given in the terms that matter

A length of 24” and a height of just 2.5”.

Height is the figure to check before anything else, because a bar in front of a television can block the screen’s bottom edge or the set’s infrared receiver. Two and a half inches is low.

For length, this shelf runs from the Bose at 594 mm (23.4 in) (23.4 in) to the Philips B4208 at 1,100 mm (43.3 in) (43 in). Twenty-four inches sits at the short end — which suits a 43 to 50-inch television and a narrow unit.

What Dolby Audio is, and is not

Dolby Audio is the umbrella name for Dolby’s channel-based formats: Digital, Digital Plus, TrueHD. Each sound is assigned a fixed speaker position and the bar renders it from the drivers it has.

Dolby Atmos is object-based: sounds placed at points in space, height included.

Decoding Dolby Audio is practically valuable, because it is what broadcast television, most streaming and nearly every disc actually send — so the bar receives the real mix rather than a stereo downmix. The Assistrust KY2023 on this shelf, by contrast, asks you to switch Dolby off at the source.

What it is not is overhead sound. Only the Majority Sierra here claims Atmos, and it is the only bar on this shelf with a third number in its channel count: 2.0.2, two genuine height drivers.

No wattage, like the other two famous names

Amazon publishes no power figure. Nor does Sony. Nor does Bose.

Every unknown brand here does: Philips 60, 120, 140 · Assistrust 80, 90 · Hisense 240 · Suntrok 240 peak · Majority 120 RMS.

The omission is more defensible than it first looks, because nine of those ten are maximum or peak figures — momentary ceilings that cannot be compared with each other. Only the Majority publishes RMS, a continuous rating, which makes it genuinely more powerful than a “240 W peak” bar.

A number nobody can compare is worth little more than no number.

Eighteen percent recycled, with a parenthesis

Made from 18% recycled materials (power adapter and cable not included).

The only sustainability figure on this shelf. The natural reading is that the adapter and cable are excluded from the calculation, not the box — since another bullet says the HDMI cable is included.

What it does not say is which materials: recycled plastic in a chassis is a different claim from recycled aluminum, and the percentage is by mass with no breakdown.

What is not published

No driver size, only “dual speakers”. Suntrok publishes diameters; Bose names two full-range drivers and a center tweeter.

No subwoofer, and none offered as an add-on — where Hisense at the same $119.99 includes a wireless one, and Bose at $279 at least sells a bass module separately.

No equaliser modes, where three Philips bars have four and the Hisense has six.

1,801 g is published.

Availability

In its favor, and against it

Strengths

  • The HDMI cable is in the box, where both premium names on this shelf sell it separately
  • Publishes its length and height in the terms that matter — 24 inches long, 2.5 high
  • DTS Virtual:X and Dolby Audio, where two Philips bars at similar money have neither

Compromises

  • No power figure at all, no driver size and no equaliser modes
  • Two point zero channels and no subwoofer, where Hisense at the same price includes a wireless one
  • Dolby Audio is not Dolby Atmos — it is the channel-based family

What gets asked most

Why does it publish no wattage?

It is the pattern among the known brands here, and it is worth seeing whole. Amazon, Sony and Bose — the three names most people recognize on this shelf — publish no power figure at all. Every brand you have not heard of does: Philips 60, 120 and 140 W, Assistrust 80 and 90 W, Hisense 240 W, Suntrok 240 W peak, Majority 120 W RMS. The reason the omission is defensible is that nine of those ten figures are maximum or peak numbers — momentary ceilings, not sustained levels — and so not comparable with each other. Only the Majority Sierra publishes RMS, a continuous rating. So a "240 W peak" bar is genuinely less powerful than a 120 W RMS one. A number nobody can compare is close in value to no number, which is presumably the calculation.

Is Dolby Audio the same as Dolby Atmos?

No, and the distinction decides what you get. Dolby Audio is the umbrella name for Dolby’s channel-based formats — Digital, Digital Plus, TrueHD — in which each sound is assigned to a fixed speaker position and the bar renders those positions from the drivers it has. Dolby Atmos is object-based: a mixer places a sound at a point in three-dimensional space, height included, and the system works out which drivers should produce it. Decoding Dolby Audio is practically valuable, because it is what broadcast television, most streaming and nearly every disc actually send. What it is not is overhead sound. On this shelf only the Majority Sierra at $139.95 claims Atmos, and it is also the only bar here with a third number in its channel count — 2.0.2, meaning two real height drivers.

What does 18 percent recycled materials mean exactly?

It is the only sustainability figure on this shelf, and the parenthesis needs reading. The bullet says the device "is made from 18% recycled materials (power adapter and cable not included)". The natural reading is that the adapter and the cable are excluded from the calculation — their materials do not count toward the 18 percent — rather than excluded from the box, since an earlier bullet says "just plug in the included HDMI cable". So the 18 percent describes the soundbar itself. What the figure does not say is which materials: recycled plastic in a chassis is a different thing from recycled aluminum or recycled packaging, and the percentage is by mass without a breakdown. No other listing on this shelf makes any claim of this kind, so there is nothing to compare it against.

Amazon reports what buyers took in the month before this page was last checked: at least 5,000.

The figure is a floor, rounded by Amazon, and read through Keepa — it says what buyers picked, not what a maker claims.
