The bottom line The one pull-down screen here whose surface can actually be compared — gain 1.0, stated, which is the honest neutral choice for a wide sofa.
Gain 1.0. It means light is returned toward the viewer at the same rate as a standard reference surface: evenly, across a wide angle, with no hot spot. On a shelf where the specification is almost universally absent, a stated neutral figure is worth more than a higher unstated one.
Seating is spread across a sofa. A high-gain screen brightens the centre axis and dims the ends, which suits a narrow, central arrangement and works against an ordinary room. Gain 1.0 gives everyone the same picture.
178 × 178 cm — square. Both common aspect ratios leave some fabric unlit, which is a compromise rather than a fault. It suits a room used for more than films.
A black backing, and slow retract. The first stops light passing through the fabric and returning; the second decides how the edges age. Both are worth confirming in the manual.

Because it is neutral: light is returned evenly rather than concentrated toward the centre axis. Everyone on a wide sofa sees the same brightness, and there is no hot spot in the middle of the image. Higher gain brightens the middle seat at the expense of the others.
It is a compromise. A 16:9 film uses the full width and leaves bands above and below; 4:3 material uses the full height and leaves bands at the sides. Nothing is wasted structurally, and some surface is always unlit. It suits mixed use.
