A 3LCD projector that publishes white and colour brightness as the same figure — a distinction single-chip machines rarely make, and one that decides how a saturated image actually looks.

What three panels change

A 3LCD projector splits light into red, green and blue, sends each through its own panel, and recombines them through a prism. There is no colour wheel, which has two consequences: no rainbow artefacts for the minority of viewers who see them, and white and colour brightness that match.

The figure other makers do not publish

Epson states 3 000 lumens of white brightness and 3 000 lumens of colour brightness. The second number is the one that matters for a saturated image, and on a single-chip machine it is typically well below the first — which is why single-chip specification sheets rarely contain it.

What PRO-UHD means, precisely

Pixel shifting. The panel is flashed more than once per frame with the image displaced, placing more pixels on the screen than the panel physically has. Epson names the technique rather than calling it native 4K, and that naming is worth noting: three different machines are sold as “4K”, and only the label tells you which one you are buying.

The contrast figure

40 000:1 stated. As everywhere on this shelf, the sheet does not say whether it is measured natively or with the iris moving, and this page will not assume one.

What is optional rather than included

Wireless. It is listed as optional, which means an accessory. On a ceiling-mounted machine that matters more than it sounds, because the alternative is a cable run.

What is the difference between white and colour brightness?

A single-chip projector passes light through a colour wheel, so white light and coloured light do not leave the lens at the same rate: a machine can be very bright in white and noticeably dimmer in colour. A three-panel design has one panel per primary colour, which is why Epson can publish the two figures as equal. A specification that quotes only one number hides the gap.

Is "4K PRO-UHD" real 4K?

It is pixel shifting: a panel of lower native resolution is flashed multiple times per frame with the image displaced, placing more pixels on the screen than the panel has. The maker names it as PRO-UHD rather than native 4K, which is the honest description. On a large image it is visibly sharper than 1080p and not identical to a native 4K panel.
